What can I say? I'm a teacher! I love days off from work. Who doesn't? So when ice storms come our way, I enjoy my day off.
Now the cool thing about today is that it won't count as a snow day or us. We already had this day slated for a teacher work day. Students were not coming to school this day anyway. But we were going to be at school. We were hosting a UIL event at the elementary campus. That event has now been rescheduled for next Friday starting at 12pm. While it is uncertain if we are getting a half a day of school for the students, we know that we will be making arrangements to work this event.
But today was awesome. I totally enjoyed the day. I don't think I even stepped outside. I worked a little on a couple of bill situations that needed to be resolved soon, cooked breakfast, ate breakfast, watched "The Sound of Music", took a nap, watch a couple of episodes on Netflix called "Luther", made spaghetti for dinner, spent the whole day with family, and then I started writing in this blog.
Outside, it's white, covered with sleet and ice. Snow did not come this time around. If it had, we could have easily had 6 -9 inches of snow. But is rained and sleeted instead. It's still pretty. High of 26. Tonight's predicted low will be in the teens. But we are warm. We are enjoying the fireplace, and our central heat at this time. That's a good feeling. It is especially a good feeling when I know that there are several in the metroplex that lost power during this storm. If they don't have a wood burning fireplace or furnace, they were probably feeling the chill. So I feel especially blest.
Thinking about the storm outage in the city has made me reflect on the storm that took our electricity down for a week. That happened during the summer time. That too was a rough time. We had one of those good ol' fashion Texas size thunderstorm that did a lot of damage in our little town. The wind blew with such force that many trees came down, some of them on homes. While we didn't loose any full size trees, (at least not yet) we did loose a large limb that hit the ground with such force, we could feel it in the bathroom where we were sheltering. It had fallen on our phone line and yanked it from the side of our home. Debris from this storm was everywhere in town. You couldn't drive down the roads without having to drive around limbs, some large, and other objects that were in the way. We didn't know how long our power would remain out, so we made preparations for it to be out a while. We stayed elsewhere so we could have warm water for our showers. We tried to spare the times in our freezer by purchasing a deep freeze and using it at a location that still had electricity. We made it through because of good friends, family, and God. I pray that He look after those who are without electricity tonight by providing for their needs through friends, and family, if not, perfect strangers who hear God's calling to care for them.

Well, those are my random thoughts for tonight. Nothing fancy! Just what is on my mind at this time. I am hoping that I can get back into this writing thing again soon. It used to come pretty natural to me. But as I am simply writing random thoughts here, I see that I am a bit rusty at it. Maybe I will get better again over time. God bles
